What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

We want to work with you, and encourage you to contact us regarding our services. We only ask for basic contact information and the nature of your inquiry in our web form, and use this data to most effectively respond to your request.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Google Analytics may save cookies related to your activity when you visit our site.

Analytics

Google analytics may track your user activity while visiting our site.
We anonymize IP addresses sent to Google for analytical purposes.
You can find their privacy policy here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

Sharing your data

We do not share the information you provide to us via our firm contact form with outside organizations.
We may share your information with those partner organizations clearly delineated on the page containing a form relating to a collaborative event.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
We do not provide visitors to our site with user profiles, and do not retain user data beyond that expressly provided through a comment or a form submission.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Your IP address is monitored for the purpose of site responsiveness at the time of your visit and compared against a geolocation database hosted on our web server, but this information is not provided to an outside service.
Google analytics may track your user activity while visiting our site. You can find their privacy policy here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

How we protect your data

We only solicit information which is relevant. We believe the best way to keep your personal information secure is to only share when necessary. When you do graciously share your personal data with us, we strive to provide a secure environment for your personal data, including encrypted storage, enforced SSL for data transmission, data breach detection, and good old fashioned discretion.

What data breach procedures we have in place

Upon discovery of a data breach, the source of that breach is to be immediately addressed, with the aim of minimizing data loss.
Following this response, data activity will be analyzed, and potential personal information loss identified.
Personally identifiable information loss will result in the notification of affected parties.
